The Maendeleo Ya wanawake, Kisumu chapter has lauded the current National Council for Population and Development (NCPD) developed population policy 2012 arguing that it has seen the county register impressive progress in population issues.

Speaking during the county advocacy forum targeting Maendeleo ya wanawake Organization-Kisumu chapter, the chairperson commended NCPD for engaging the women at the grassroots level who she reiterated were well acquainted with the real issues that affected the common woman in the village.

She called on government to increase funding to NCPD to intensify such engagements with a view to scaling-up public awareness and allow women an opportunity to air out population issues that affect them.

She noted defilement, drug abuse, teenage pregnancies, gender based violence, poverty and unemployment were some of the emerging population issues that required urgent attention.

The function aimed at sensitizing the women leaders on Population Policy for National Development and to collect their views towards reviewing the document. The event was graced by among others the MYWO national treasurer Ms. Susan Owino
