On the 26th September 2018, the Meru Health sector launched the Meru Health Sector Strategic and Investment Plan, the Meru County costed Implementation plan for family planning, and the Meru County HIV/TB/SRH Strategic Plan. The launched documents provide strategic direction for the County in meeting the health needs and stipulates investments required in the five years of their implementation amounting to Kes. 42 billion.

The Chief Guest at the launch was the Meru County Governor, H.E. Kiraitu Murungi who in his speech acknowledged the presence of the National Council for Population and Development. He indicated that it was petty to continue talking about large numbers in the population when we are not taking into account the quality of the people. In his words, “we had better have fewer people who can be able to take care of themselves than many that cannot carry themselves”. He indicated their willingness as a County to work with NCPD to be able to ensure the community are informed and in the process have quality population.

Following the official launch at the Three Steers Hotel, the day proceeded to celebrate the World Contraceptive Day held annually on the 26th of September every year. As part of the celebrations, free medical services were offered to the public at Nteere Grounds in Meru County. NCPD also took the opportunity to conduct public education during the occasion.
